Roadrunners can weigh up to 1.5 pounds, measure between 15 and 24 inches and have a wingspan of 38 to 46 inches. They can live up to eight years, and have a diet of small reptiles, invertebrates and rodents. Roadrunners live among the grasslands, deserts and open woodlands of southwestern North America. Roadrunners are not adapted for flight and can only glide for short distances. While running, the roadrunner can achieve a speed of 15 miles per hour, and uses its tail as a rudder to change direction.
