Morgan Horse

Equus caballus

About the Morgan Horse

Class: Mammalia
Order: Perissodactyla
Family: Equidae
Genus: Equus
Species: caballus

Morgan horses are one of the oldest American horse breeds, valued for their strength, stamina and calm nature. These horses were the breed of choice for Civil War cavalry and are now the official state horse of Massachusetts!

The Morgan horse is a heritage breed, a traditional livestock breed significant to our history and carefully selected for traits that made them strong and resilient helpers on the farm. Although modern technology has reduced the need for some livestock breeds on the farm, it's important to conserve the biodiversity and history of these animals.
