April School Vacation Week

Join us for April school vacation week at Franklin Park Zoo. Each day is its own unique session, so you can join us for one day, or all four!

Each day will focus on a different topic and children will get the opportunity to see animals up-close while learning all about them! These sessions are offered to participants ages 6-8. Taught by Zoo educators, classes include hands-on activities, discussion, animal encounters and behind-the-scenes experiences. Each program includes progressive program topics focused on teaching students about animals and their interactions within their ecosystems.

Class Size and Safety Information:

Class Size and Safety Information: Classes will be limited to 20 participants. These classes will be held indoors, with certain activities and zoo walks that will be held outdoors. Please note, parent/guardian and unregistered friend/sibling attendance is not permitted.

Program Details: April Showers & May Flowers

Spring is in the air at Franklin Park Zoo! This week we'll take a closer look at some of the many natural phenomena that occur during the spring season.

Tuesday (4/21): Native Plants in Bloom

Explore the beneficial native plants growing in our neighborhoods, and learn about the pollinators that help them grow. Bring an artistic eye and excitement to learn more about the life cycle of a flower, get a closer look at what needs to happen to get the colorful plants that come with spring, and discover these flowers can be used to add color to our lives.

Wednesday (4/22): Life Under a Microscope

Believe it or not, we're surrounded by ecosystems, and some are even so small that you can only see them under a microscope! Take a closer look at some of the microscopic organisms that play an important role in keeping our ecosystems happy and healthy, and learn just how they do it.

Thursday (4/23): Wonders of Water

Water is a powerful force of nature that plays a big role in shaping the world around us. Learn more about the impact water has on different environments, jumpstarting everything that ecosystems need to thrive, and how humans have used natural resources to engineer solutions to prevent erosion. Please note: we are planning some muddy activities!

Friday (4/24): What’s in an Egg?

The spring season is a time for new growth and life, and much of this happens inside an egg! Take a closer look inside an egg to learn what eggs do and what scientists can discover by studying them.

Inclement Weather Cancellation Policy:

We take safety seriously – for participants, Zoo visitors, staff and for our animals. In the event of an incoming storm, Zoo staff may decide to cancel a vacation day/private program. In addition to our education team, the Zoo’s snow team keeps a close eye on the impending storm. The decision may be made to open the Zoo as usual, have a delayed opening, or close for the day depending on the severity of the storm and the subsequent clean up. We reserve the right to cancel a program by 8:00am on the day of the program. If we decide we must cancel a program day due to situations beyond our control, we will issue a credit for your program, to be used towards another one of Zoo New England’s education programs.
