Volunteer FAQs

Group Volunteer FAQ

What’s the process for bringing a group/organization to volunteer?

Contact us to book a group volunteer experience. We are scheduling groups with at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure enough time to coordinate a suitable project.

When can a group volunteer experience be booked?

We host group volunteer experiences from April through November. We start scheduling experiences in February. The majority of our projects take place during weekday mornings. We also have a few weekend opportunities for groups to help out at special events.

How many volunteers can you host?

We can host up to 20 people at Franklin Park Zoo or Stone Zoo.

Is there a fee?

There is NO fee to volunteer at Franklin Park Zoo or Stone Zoo, but as a non-profit, any and all donations – monetary or in-kind – are accepted with tremendous gratitude. Visit our Wishlist for more ways to help.

Do we need to bring supplies?

You don’t. We provide the tools necessary for your scheduled project. Donations of rakes, shovels and work gloves are always appreciated.

Is there a place to buy lunch on Zoo grounds?

We have on-site concessions stands at both Zoos. We can also cater your lunch, which could include items ranging from sandwiches to a barbeque. Please inquire for menus and fees. Volunteers are welcome to bring/order lunch if preferred.

What should I wear/ bring?

As the majority of our projects are outside, please be prepared to work in all weather conditions. Dress in layers and wear clothing that’s appropriate for painting, gardening, cleaning, etc. It is suggested that volunteers wear sunscreen, hat, bug spray, comfortable shoes, and bring a water bottle.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

Your day of service helps us thrive! In addition, it serves as a team builder for your organization or corporation. Upon completion of your project, all volunteers are welcome to walk around and enjoy the Zoo. We offer a special membership to individuals who have volunteered with a group.

What other volunteer options are available?

We also accept individual volunteers within each of our departments on a weekly basis. The departments are Animal Care, Education, Horticulture and Facilities. We also have a Wild Bunch group that assists us at special events and fundraisers.

What else can I do to help?

We invite you to donate, become members and join us for our special events and fundraisers. Visit our Wishlist!
