Food Forests

Explore our free, public food forests at both Zoos—lush edible gardens to support community resilience and food access!

Food forests, also known as edible gardens, are located at the entrances of Stone Zoo and Franklin Park Zoo’s Giraffe entrance. Designed to enhance food access and strengthen community resilience, these gardens are open to the public—no admission required!

Species used for these projects include hickory, persimmon, pawpaw, cornelian cherry dogwood, red mulberry, black cherry, apple, beach plum, hardy fig, mint, fiddlehead fern and blueberry.
