Sunday, October 11, Franklin Park Zoo: Due to events happening within the park, a portion of Circuit Drive will be closed until approximately 2:30 p.m. Guests may enter and exit the Zoo via the Zebra Entrance on Blue Hill Avenue. Parking lots near this entrance will be available while a portion of Circuit Drive is closed. The parking lot on Pierpont Road near the Zoo’s Giraffe Entrance will reopen after approximately 2:30 p.m. All roadways will be available for our evening Boston Lights event.

School-Year ZooTeens

The School-Year ZooTeen Program engages youth with a sincere interest in wildlife, education and environmental justice in unpaid conservation education internship experiences. 

Applications for the Fall Teen Internship are now closed.  

Applications for the Winter Teen Conservation Outreach Internship are now open! The deadline to apply is December 9, 2026.

Build real-world skills in conservation education, public speaking and guest engagement while gaining hands-on experience at the Zoo.

Internship Requirements

Professional Development Workshops:
Conservation Outreach interns attend professional development workshops focusing on building the skills to create and deliver an effective 30-minute conservation-themed program to elementary school students over the February Vacation Week. Skills include: inquiry-based lesson planning, behavior management, universal design for learning, and project management. 

Weekend Practicum Shifts:
Interns will complete 30 hours of weekend and February break practicum shifts at Franklin Park Zoo over the course of the internship. Practicum hours include interpreting with guests, coaching, receiving feedback, trying out parts of your education program for guests to get feedback, and assisting with the care of our headstart turtles and rabbits. Shifts take place on Saturdays or Sundays and are offered in two time blocks: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. 

Age and Attendance Requirements:

  • Interns must be between 14-19 years of age at the start of the internship.
  • Interns must be able to meet attendance requirements for the duration of the internship.
  • Interns with strong attendance will also get opportunities for networking across the zoo, training in animal handling, and educational field trips.

Applications are due on December 9 by 5:00 p.m., and we anticipate accepting 6 - 8 winter ZooTeen interns.

After the review of your application, you may be invited to participate in an in-person group interview to learn more about Franklin Park Zoo. (Returning Teen Applicants will have the choice to interview in person or on zoom).
